Dear Participant

Welcome to the ERECCA program - a program with a vision to "Enhance Research Ethics Capacity and Compliance in Africa". A generous grant from the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) has supported the development of this program. EDCTP wishes to promote awareness of the history, principles, codes and guidelines of health research ethics and to increase knowledge and application of contemporary ethical issues in health research in the African context.

Acknowledging that you are all busy clinical trial investigators / site co-ordinators /research nurses /pharmacists/counsellors, we have decided to develop a web-based Good Clinical Practice (GCP) program that you can access from your sites or from home after hours. We have assumed that you have all completed your basic GCP training - approximately 3 years ago- and that you are experienced researchers. As such this course is designed to refresh your knowledge on some important issues in clinical trial research. In addition, we present updates on guidelines and new developments to enhance the ethical practice of clinical research.

Twelve modules are available for this course. At the end of each module there are 5 questions to stimulate thought and test your understanding before proceeding to the next module. You must answer all 5 questions. In order to proceed to the next module, you will need to score 4/5 or 80%. PDF documents of the module content are available for each module. You may print these as you go along and use them to complete the quiz.

You will have 3 months from the date of registration in which to complete the course. At the end of 2 months a reminder will be sent via email. One week before the expiry date, a second email will be sent to you.

When you have completed all 12 modules, you will receive a certificate of competence. You may submit this certificate to your research ethics committee, regulatory agency, Contract Research Organization (CRO) or sponsor as required. South African delegates may obtain a CPD certificate as well.

To gain access to the ERECCA program you will need to register. Please complete the registration form as fully as possible. You will then receive an email regarding payment details.

South African delegates must ensure that HPCSA registration numbers are entered on the registration form in order to obtain your CPD certificates.

We trust that your research endeavors will be successful and that this course will assist you in applying the principles you have learnt in your various clinical trial settings.
